week five

We’ve been a little entrenched in Harry Potter lately. Kaylie and I are both in the middle of reading the books (she’s on Book Five, I’m on Book Six)(I think this is my fourth time reading through them all), and Noah and I finally decided to let Kaylie watch the rest of the movies as she reads the books. We’d let her watch the first two a while ago, but the third one gets darker, and she’s the kind of kid who would have nightmares/fears about the movies. (She is her mother’s daughter, after all.)

But, she’s been adamant that she can handle them, and since she’s now read (most of) the books and kind of knows what to expect, we figured she was ready. The movies are rated PG, but that doesn’t mean a whole lot to me. Ratings are quite loose nowadays.

Anyway, my whole point in telling you this is to say that, usually when we watch movies together, the girls and I play Lego. Keeping with the Harry Potter theme, we played with Harry Potter Lego, and this is why a few of the photos this week are Harry Potter Lego photos. Noah was in Edmonton all last week, so we watched the first four movies, as many movies as books Kaylie has read.

On a side note, Kaylie has never really loved reading. She struggled with it the first couple years in school, and it’s always been kind of a forced thing. We require her to read for at least half an hour every day whether she wants to or not. Now that she’s picked up the Harry Potter books? She begs to read longer. This is pretty rad.

But, yes, the movie-watching went fine. I let Liliana watch them too, as things like movies do not frighten her in the least. Running water? Her own shadow? Those are the things that scare her. Lord Voldemort? Not even a bit.
