Noah called me early Monday afternoon to tell me that Serenity was playing at the theatre that night. Say, what? He encouraged me to go, and I didn’t need any convincing. I tried with no avail to find someone to go with me, but did not find anyone. That didn’t stop me, though, and I went on my own.
I should say, I couldn’t find anyone local. Plenty of US Browncoats wanted to go, but none of them could get to Canada/Saskatoon by showtime. This is the only downside to Internet friendship: people live so dang far away.
Noah bought me the Firefly and Serenity Blu-Rays for Christmas last year, but watching Serenity on the big screen? It is 300 times better than watching it at home.
The theatre was packed. I found a seat next to another person who was sitting by herself. I asked her if she minded if I sat beside her, and she said no. She said she was alone because she couldn’t find anyone to go with, and I said I was alone for the same reason. And then we bonded a bit over Firefly and Buffy and then the movie all of a sudden started and the theatre was silent.
It was amazing. I felt like I was at a Con session watching a much-loved movie with a couple hundred other members of the Firefly fandom. Everybody laughed at the funny parts, and everybody gasped when *SPOILER*ALERT* Wash died. I mean, I’m sure 90% of the people in that theatre had seen the movie before, but even though I knew what was coming, I nearly covered my eyes, because I didn’t want that part to happen.
Also, Tumblr needs a gif of River beating the crap out of those people in that bar, with the caption: GUYS. I KNOW KUNG FU.
There are so many awesome quotable lines in that movie. I would write down my favourites, but I don’t think you guys have time for all of them.
When the credits rolled, everyone clapped. For at least a minute straight.
And I wanted to take them all out for coffee so we could talk about all the Firefly/Serenity/Whedony things.
I didn’t want it to end.
I am a leaf on the wind
Watch how I soar
