I had grand plans for these two weeks the girls had off school. We were going to pottery paint and swim and see a movie and play games and do all sorts of togethery things. Turns out the only thing we did together was be sick. Except me. Somehow I’m the only member of the family who didn’t get the coughing/hacking cold. I have no idea how that happened, as I’m pretty sure all three kids coughed in my face at least a million times.
We did end up seeing a movie, though, once the girls were finally cough-free. We saw Frozen, and here’s the thing: Remind me to never again see a movie about an endless winter when I’m in the middle of living through a real-life endless winter. Elsa’s superpower should have been creating endless spring, or endless summer. That would have made me less anxiety-ridden. ***SPOILER ALERT KIND OF*** And how the movie ended? With the skating? NO NO NO NO NO. Winter is not a happy ending. It is not IT IS NOT. ***END SPOILER ALERT***
There were a few inconsistencies that bothered me, like when they fell off the cliff without Sven anywhere to be seen, and all of a sudden Sven appears carrying Olaf. What is that?! As well as the fact that Kristoff was walking on top of the snow in snowshoes and Anna was walking in regular shoes and still staying above the snow? And she was so NOT appropriately dressed for the weather.
And this is why I should not watch kid movies. I pick them apart.
Also, we saw the 3D version, and I’m the boring type of person who prefers 2D movies, thankyouverymuch. But, the only 2D showing was at an annoying time, so 3D it was. OH! And we ended up at the wrong theatre. I bought tickets before we left (because they’re cheaper that way), and I couldn’t scan my phone when we got there. It wasn’t working. It wasn’t until I went up to the tills (and waited in the line I was aiming to avoid) that I discovered I’d chosen the wrong theatre. I mean, I meant to buy them for that theatre, but apparently I got the names mixed up. Three theatres is too many theatres to keep track of. And the other theatre was a half-hour drive with traffic, so it just wasn’t going to happen. So I paid again and got the run-around with refunding the other tickets, so that sucked a lot and a cheap movie turned into an expensive movie. *sigh*
Anyway, other than that whole kerfuffle, and the whole WINTER thing, I liked the movie. I’m a big fan of Idina Menzel (and the rest of the Rent cast), so it was great hearing her voice again. Plus, Alan Tudyk was in it, and I’m a sucker for the cast of Firefly as well.
Also, I’ve had the Let It Go song stuck in my head all day except I could only remember three words of the song and only about two bars. Many hours later I finally figured it out. All I knew was that it had “here I stand” in it, and it was sung by either Lea Michele or Idina Menzel. I couldn’t remember where or when I’d heard it. My brain is goo.
We’ve spent a lot of time cooped up inside the house, but it’s been all right. We’ve played a bit of Catan, the girls have played a lot of Minecraft together by linking their devices (I don’t even know how they do these things), their all-non-screen-related Christmas presents have been worn-in well, and we’ve eaten our weight in cinnamon buns. I look forward to them going back to school only because I don’t want to see their sad faces when they ask what we’re doing for the day and the answer is staying home because you’re all sick. Because I am the ruiner of lives and I want to not be the ruiner of lives for a while. Though I honestly have enjoyed having everyone around for two whole weeks. Noah’s only had to work three and a half of the sixteen days the girls have off, which has been quite lovely. It’s going to be lonely on Monday when it’s just Preston and me.
Oh, and the title of this post is the opposite of true. I’m typing this while wearing two hoddies/bunny-hugs, with the hoods up, and a pair of slippers. And I’m still cold. My cupboards are so cold they could practically serve as mini fridges. The cold does bother me, and it’s just messed up to look forward to -20°C/-4°F temperatures because they seem warm compared to where we’re currently at. It’s supposed to “feel like” -41°C/-42°F again on Sunday which just makes me want to curl up and hibernate.
Only five months till spring!
