One of my goals this year is to run two 10Ks. I haven’t signed up for one yet, but I began training for one yesterday. The Saskatoon Police Half Marathon is on April 21st, which is twelve weeks and four days away. The training program I’m using (10K Runner) is fourteen weeks long. I had planned to start it Sunday before last, but that was the day I came down with The Plague. I think it’s over now. Mostly. My ears are still plugged and I can’t hear very well, but other than that things are back to normal. So, I’ll just have to fit an extra run in for the first three weeks so I can catch up on the missed runs.
Tuesday evening I made dinner for my family (pizza)(of the home-made variety)(one deep-dish pepperoni/mushroom/feta for Noah, one thin-crust cheese for Kaylie and Preston, one mini no-sauce cheese for Liliana), dressed in many, many layers (knee-length socks, leggings, yoga capris, a long tank, a long-sleeve shirt, a three-quarter-length shirt, a track jacket, a scarf, a thermal biking head covering thing, a Jayne hat, and thermal biking gloves), started my music (Green Day’s Nimrod), started the app, and took off.
It was cold, but not bad. It was -27°C/-17°F with the wind chill, which is 13°C/23°F warmer than it was on Monday. It really wasn’t so bad. I had the scarf over my nose and mouth for the first bit, but I couldn’t breathe very well so I pulled it down and my face didn’t freeze off. It felt nice to run again. I’ve missed it a lot.
The only problem was breathing, which was easier when I removed my scarf, but still kind of problematic due to being out of shape, the cold, and my asthma, which I read gets worse in the cold. I think I might bring my super-cool inhaler with me on my next run. I’m still new to this asthma thing, and it kind of scares me sometimes. At least it wasn’t a hard run. I was gone for 25 minutes, but really, there were only six one-minute runs in there.
I haven’t been running in way too long, and I’m glad I have someone like Kami to kick my butt if I don’t give it my all. I miss living in Regina, by her and and by Wascana Lake. I guess I could run by the river here, but I’d need to drive there and that’s just kind of annoying. In Regina, we lived close enough to Wascana Lake that I could do my warm-up walk on the way there, and start running once I reached the lake. I’m just glad I get to run with Kami again in the Saskatchewan Marathon at the end of May. We’ve turned it into an annual thing.
In non-running news, Meg was here this weekend! As was Noah’s sister Talitha! We had great visits with both of them. Games of Catan were played, and I lost more than I won, which is not normal for me. I usually win, because I am awesome. Between them and my sister, people’s visiting has made January not so horrible. And it’s almost over! But not before a week of single-parenting, which I am so not looking forward to. But then, at the same time, I am looking forward to it, because popcorn and movies for dinner every night!
And here is the last week’s worth of Project 365 photos. There aren’t any with Meg in them, because I suck at life. Noah did take a couple shots of us, though, so I’ll have to find those.
